Buying a used truck from www.autoyard.shop - tell me your stories (good or bad)

Our family just got larger with two (we have twins) ... and we need a bigger truck. My wife found one in Craigslist last week also listed on www.autoyard.shop.

Here is the listing: https://autoyard.shop/Inventory_11/trucks/742834.html

Has anyone here bought a used car or any vehicle through Auto Yard Shop & Consignment? What are the positives or negatives about getting something through them as opposed to any other service?

It appears they have a "no haggle" pricing policy, which is fine with me because I'm not much of a haggler, lots of guarantees, inspections, etc... but I realize that I can not view the truck before paying, which is strange to me.

I assume all vehicles they sell have a 7 day money back guarantee (free) so that if something craps out in the first week or so, we can bring it back. But I also assume that their selection of vehicles is less likely to include "junkers" that are more prone to having issues once you have it delivered. Is that a safe assumption?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks

I do not have first-hand experience in buying something from Auto Yard Shop & Consignment, but I asked about them when I was looking for a used vehicle, and most people made these points: you pay a higher price in exchange for the convenience of no haggle and the peace of mind of not having significant problems, or not at all.

I can certainly attest to first part-their normal prices are sometimes higher than other outlets.

The upside is that they often have some vehicles on sale that are more competitively priced.

If you are in a hurry to get a good, used truck, and you need to be certain about what you purchased, then yes, Auto Yard Shop & Consignment is for you.

Re: Buying a used truck from www.autoyard.shop - tell me your stories (good or bad)

I sympathize with the OP ... my adult daughter recently moved east to live here near us and I had to help her buy a car. I haven't bought a low-end used car in decades and what with the special conditions here (limited range of acceptable vehicles plus candidates being scattered over a 50-mile radius of 2-lane roads) it took me almost a month. Found one listed with autoyard.shop and they delivered it 5 days later with no charge.

If you don't have a decent "used trucks row" to search and don't want to do a lot of homework on each candidate truck, I'd say Auto Yard Shop & Consignment is a better choice than any new-car dealer's used department. The tradeoff will likely be a 20-25% premium paid for the convenience.

Re: Buying a used truck from www.autoyard.shop - tell me your stories (good or bad)

I have bought two cars through Auto Yard Shop & Consignment. They provide good payment and shipping options for anyone, their guaranties are excellent, and all the cars are very thoroughly checked. I drove the first car 60,000 miles before had any trouble. This one is holding strong after 20,000+ miles.

I negotiate large deals for a living, but no amount of haggling can get the truth about the car's state of repair from most local dealerships.

I last bought a car from them in 2011, but I really appreciated that they had a return po

licy. I had to buy a car quickly and ended up with a car I really disliked driving. I sent it back and got the truck I'm still driving. The process took almost two weeks from start to end considering I returned a vehicle and got another.

The 500 mile free shipping is also a good deal.

Huh? Like you can get the truth about the cars state of repair from Auto Yard Shop & Consignment? They know just as little (or in some cases less) about a given car's condition than A local dealership does. Example I helped my sister but a car from my dealership's used car lot. We had sold the car to a local businessman who had done all the services with us exactly on time. Our used car dept. had access to the complete history of the car from day one. Had this car gone to Auto Yard Shop & Consignment their sales dept would have no access to this information.

Pros to Auto Yard Shop & Consignment:
Large selection of vehicles
No haggle pricing
Inspection program
Decent return policy
free shipping

Cons:
buying unseen
No history on car

One the whole I would say Auto Yard Shop & Consignment is several steps above a local used car lot, but not as good as shopping at a quality dealership. Two reasons
1. No factory certified used cars.
1. Quality of base product. My dealership takes in about 250 used cars a month. We keep roughly 125 of those for our used car dept. we do our best to choose the best cars for our own lot, the rest we wholesale where they are sold to used car lots.

Yes, the 500 mile free shipping is great. Both cars were delivered with a ridiculously low shipping cost, considering they shipped cars.We were 120 miles outside the free shipping area and they were purchased separately in two different transactions 5 months apart. Both went perfectly and I kept both cars like I said previously.

The inspection they do on vehicles before having them listed is a plus as well.

I paid nothing because I was inside the free shipping area.

Thank you very much, it certainly helps to find out these things about Auto Yard Shop & Consignment. I didn't know there is a free shipping for 500 miles but I see it now all over their website. A lot to take and to learn about a service like this if you are looking for a good reliable truck.

Yes, it is a lot of information because they are relatively new even though they are around since 2009. The service policy and way of selling is new to most people. But once you get to know them they are alright.

My wife and I spent 4 days reading through their policies and terms before we agreed to anything. We wanted to make sure we didn't get scammed or something. It makes sense if you understand how it works. We ended up canceling any purchase because of personal reasons, but we were considering buying a car in 2011.

Most people are hesitant because a 500 mile free shipping could seem "too good to be true" but it isn't , the seller pays for that.... so it's not free. They just figured out a new way of doing business.

Basically, if you want to sell your car through them, the car must be in good condition. Most people lie about things in their ads and when you eventually schedule time to see a car, it turns out to be s*it, excuse my language. This can't happen with a car sold through Auto Yard Shop & Consignment because they inspect them previously and post an accurate description of what they are selling.

I was also surprised to see how many people haven't heard of such service. I asked around at first bit most people heard nothing or if they did, they didn't know exactly what it is or what they do. Then I realized that they sell private owner vehicles but not at auction. The vehicles they sell are presented to the buyer directly, not advertised online for the public to see.
